JW converts - what percentage fall away?
by Double Edge ini got into a discussion today at lunch with someone who years ago 'flirted' with becoming a jw (then 1975 came and went).
i've never been a dub, but what i've gather from this board there are those raised in the religion who after 30-40 years leave for whatever reason.
what percentage of those not raised in the religion, but are converted, become disillusioned and finally leave?

TF...
I'm not sure which one you're referring to, but look at the directory at the top of this page...it says "Options", with a sub-category "Search". Click on search, follow the instructions for Googling within JWD.... try "anointed" .... several postings should come up.
hope this helps.

I told this person it was probably 50% - high figure, yes...but they don't have all the guilt and family "baggage" keeping them in. Does that figure seem about right?

USA - Don't Pump Gas on May 15th.
by onlycurious inon may 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices.
gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
there are 73,000,000+ american members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

The better idea is not to buy ANY gas from Exxon/Mobil, the largest oil company in the U.S. .. just go to their competitor. If they just lost 20 percent in sales, it would start a price war and we would see the price go down. We're at the highest prices at the pump ($3.49), but not the highest prices for a barrel of oil.... someones getting rich off of us.

How DARE he judge me! How DARE he say i've left jehovah and don't love him anymore. I love god more now than anytime in my life. URRR I AM SO PISSED
Take a deeeeeeep breath............. now let it out slowly...
Things like that would bother me too when I was younger. Now that I've been down the "road" a bit, I just shrug something like that off and think "whatever". Don't let him determine how you feel - remember, what you said is right - he doesn't know you, he doesn't know anything about you, so you can't take it personally... it's not possible. He's the one with a problem... he's "trapped" and he doesn't even know it.
take care.....

I liked the guy who said that Smith was a complete fake (an ex-convict, actually) who eventually started to believe his own religious lies.
I was unaware of their bloody battles and Smith's plan to seize the presidency of the USA.
Were we watching the same show? First of all, although being brought before magistrates many times, I don't believe anything was said about Smith being convicted of anything. Secondly, I felt that it was really balanced, presenting both sides. Yes, there was a man whose opinion was Smith was a fake, but there were others with deep conviction that he wasn't, along with others who although not believing the doctrine, believed Smith was sincere. Additionally, interestingly, one of the non-mormon scholars pointed out that any religions' history, including Christianity itself could be examined and found wanting with very similar overall issues people seem to use against the mormons - in other words - ones belief is a matter of faith, whether weak or strong.
Lastly, I don't recall hearing about Smith trying to "seize" the presidency.... how would that be possible, especially being what was then the edge of civilization and far from the power in Washington? The program just said he was planning on running for President (so, by the way were many people at that time - just look at the field of contenders we have today from both parties).
All in all I thought it was well balanced..... people come from all walks of life and take different journeys.

Morg Elders have been knocking (hmm, is that a JW registered trademark?) on a friend's door since January. She was afraid to go alone, especially after her and I checked some ex-mormon sites on Saturday. So, did the Morg loosen their rules to let us in their Temple to hear their prophet? We read about the recommend on-line but don't fully understand how you get one. In any event, the elders who've been pestering my friend got us in.
This whole post is a BIG CROCK! I ran this by one of my Mormon friends and he just laughed. There is sooooo many holes in your story. The "Prophet" (president of the LDS church) spoke at one of their Temples? He can speak at one of their wards, or in Salt Lake at their Conference center, but to have him publicly speak at one of their temples...doesn't happen. 2. You get a recommend by going through 2 interviews, one with a Bishop who KNOWS you're a member of their church and one with a Stake (diocese) President. Elders can't "get you in". You've been busted BIG TIME.
